Influenced by formative experiences sneaking into clubs at the age of 14 to hear legendary DJs such as Derrick Carter, DJ Sneak, and Nelson Rosado spin, he began experimenting with mixing two hi-fi tape decks together before in 1996, at the age of 15, he bought his first set of decks and started DJing in his hometown of Waterford, quickly gaining himself a residency at a local underground night. From there he relocated to Cork, where he has been based ever since and where his after-hours sets at illegal warehouse parties are the stuff of local legend. Over the years he has brought his distinctive, fast, funky 3-deck fusion of techno influences to almost every techno night in Ireland from his own Bastardo Electrico club-nights at the legendary Sir Henry's, residencies at influential nights such as Bass, to headline slots at clubs across the country, alongside a three year stint presenting a popular radio show on the award-winning dance music radio station, Radio Friendly. Along the way he has shared the decks with some of the biggest and best names in techno including Adam Beyer, Ben Sims, Billy Nasty, DJ Bone, Paul Mac, Mark Williams, and Neil Landstrumm, and is currently a resident at Cork's premier underground club-night 'Schmutzig' for which he received a nomination for 'Best Resident DJ' at the inaugural Irish Dance Music Awards. Over the past couple of years he has presented a web-radio show for Ireland's foremost electronic music e-zine, Electronic Ireland, of which he is a founding member. The show is currently on hiatus but is set to return with a series of podcasts over the course of the summer. Aside from rocking dance floors, running club nights, presenting radio shows, campaigning for longer club opening hours in Ireland, and writing for the Irish based dance music magazine Slick-DJ, he is currently busy setting up 'Bastardo Electrico Recordings', a label which will focus on dirty, quirky underground techno taking influences from Detroit, Chicago, and European techno. In line with the ethos of his label, Jamie's DJ sets refuse to be pigeon-holed into a particular sound yet at the same time are grounded in a kind of dark electronic funk that moves from Detroit to Chicago via Stockholm, Berlin, and Madrid, incorporating techno, minimal, electro, and house, all twisted together into a mutant groove. |
